Blue Orange Backpack

55.00

One of a kind handwoven in the Amazon by Mashko Yine Tribe. These bags represent an ancient artisanal heritage of the Yine people. They share symbology and living territory with the “uncontacted” tribes along ”Las Piedras” river in the Madre De Dios region of the Peruvian Amazon. Each design carries a message of protection from one of various jungle spirits, such as the boa, jaguar, frog, wind, and others. The women who created these bags are women, mothers, community leaders, care takers of Yine tribe, and part of Fashion for Conservation’s artisan empowerment/training program—reviving indigenous artisanal craft, empowering women with tools and training to grow a business sustainably, and protecting communities that have lived in harmony with nature for generations. Artisan craft is an alternative income opportunity against the pressures of mining, trafficking and logging that threatens Madre De Dios.
