International Day of Biodiversity

Biodiversity is used to describe the variety of life on Earth and forms the web of life in which we are an integral part of and depend on. It includes the wide variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms as well as genetic differences between species, and diversity in ecosystems. However, biological resources are being depleted by various industries- including fashion and cosmetics- and threatens our food supplies, woods resources, habitats for animals and communities. In fact, according to the UN, the average abundance of species declined by 40% between 1970 and 2000. Decisive action is being taken by various stakeholders around the world to stop unsustainable overconsumption of resources to conserve Earth’s species and ecosystems.
