London Fashion Week Rainforest Runway

London Fashion Week debuted Fashion for Conservation’s AW18 Campaign.

The fashion week campaign that’s protecting the Amazon rainforest with Hoja Nueva 501(c)(3).

 

Sunday, February 18th in London’s Covent Garden—Fashion for Conservation debuted their newest campaign to protect rainforests as a catwalk featuring designers' René Garza and Kalikas Armour visually stunning interpretation of rainforests and VIP cocktail afterparty. 

This season’s catwalk and cocktail party spotlighted the Amazon rainforest, the largest biodiversity hotspot on the planet. Fragmented forests store less carbon, resulting in increased climate change and decline of species globally. The urgency of conserving the earth's remaining rainforests now goes beyond cultural and wildlife preservation. Fashion for Conservation’s AW18 show featured the zero waste collection “Impermanent Flora,” an avant-garde rainforest inspired collection made entirely from end of bolt textiles and upcycled clothing by Rene Garza in collaboration with Magpies and Peacocks. Guest designer of Kalikas Armour opens the exhibition with his rainforest line, “Magestic Mystics.”

Cocktails for Conservation followed the show, a unique celebration with specialty hand crafted rainforest cocktails, chocolate tastings with rainforest grown cacao, keynotes with global conservation leaders and a VIP experience at Fashion for Conservation’s Autumn/Winter 2018 show.

"It is not enough to just create pretty fashion campaigns and couture collections,” states Nazanine Afshar, Fashion for Conservation co-founder and former Condé Nast director. “As advocates of the arts, we have the responsibility to use the power of fashion to promote causes around the world that have a direct effect on the future of our planet!” Elephantasia, Fashion for Conservation’s previous campaign, rocked September 2017's London Fashion Week runway, featuring 24 designers' interpretation of the wild elephant while putting a media spotlight on the elephant poaching crisis. Elephantasia also made a recent appearance in TEDX Seattle and on Discovery Channel.

Fashion for Conservation was founded by three women determined to make a positive impact on the world through conservation-inspired couture. Nazanine Afshar (Art Director, Condé Nast), Samantha Zwicker (Conservationist, Hoja Nueva) and Ava J. Holmes (Producer) combine their talents and passions to create fashion campaigns that educate and inspire consumers while supporting conservation.
